RPD: Impaired driver of Penske truck causes multiple crashes

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – At least one person was hospitalized after a series of crashes throughout Rochester Tuesday night involving a young woman driving a Penske truck impaired, according to police.

According to the Rochester Police Department, a woman in her 20s driving a rental Penske truck crashed at the intersection of Lyell Avenue and Child Street but took off before officers arrived. This was around 8:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve.
Amid this investigation, officers reportedly learned of another crash in the area of North Goodman Street and Pennsylvania Avenue involving an AMR ambulance. It’s alleged the woman in the Penske truck crashed into the ambulance before fleeing from the scene once again.

After a city-wide search, officers said they found the Penske truck and the driver on Fourth Street. The woman was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired (DWAI). Meanwhile, the AMR paramedic driving was taken to the hospital to be treated and is expected to survive their injuries.
