Teen killed in Walnut Creek hitandrun identified

(KRON) -- A 15-year-old boy who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Walnut Creek on Sunday has been identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner's Office as Gerardo Rosales Murillo of San Jose.
The crash happened on Newell Avenue at about 2:36 a.m. A 16-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.

Police believe the car was coming from Mount Diablo when it crashed into a support pillar on Newell Avenue under the Interstate 680 overpass.
There were five people in the car when it crashed. Murillo was sitting in the front passenger's seat.
A Contra Costa County sheriff's deputy arrived at the scene and performed CPR on Murillo. He died at a hospital.
The driver and two passengers left the scene on foot and were picked up by a family member who drove them to San Jose. The unidentified driver was arrested. The other passengers were not arrested.
Police are determining whether drugs and/or alcohol were factors in the crash.
