PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — It was a party in Providence on Tuesday night, as people from all over came to the capital city to ring in the New Year. “We’re just excited for a new year, coming out in such beautiful weather,” Mike Panus said. “This is a great event to support Providence.” Thousands gathered in the City’s 195 District Park, with the night holding special meaning for each individual. “New Year’s Eve I like to set goals for the New Year and try to be better the next year,” Maria Elizabeth said. “Always be grateful for everything that happens every year and to be able to live another year of life with your loved ones,” Maria Fernanda said. Countless activities created a festive environment for all. “We have DJs, parade groups, games, an after-dark playground and food trucks,” Providence Tourism Council Commissioner Alexis Gorriaran said. “We’ve done face painting, went on the light up swings, did a little bit of dancing,” Kevin Pleasants said. Beyond all the fun festivities, several people said the best part of the evening was simply spending time with their families. One woman said she hasn’t gone out on New Year’s Eve in years, but came out just to see her sister perform in a dance group at the celebration. “I thought, since we hadn’t come down on New Year’s Eve in a few years, we’d come down tonight,” Joanne Veroni said.
