PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee announced Tuesday that Brig. Gen. Andrew J. Chevalier will serve as the state's 45th Adjutant General and Commanding General of the Rhode Island National Guard.
Chevalier, a Rhode Island native who graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School and the University of Rhode Island, currently oversees the operations of more than 3,100 R.I. National Guard members as Director of the Joint Staff.
In a statement, McKee called Chevalier a "well-rounded, proven leader with a track record of excellence in planning, management, and logistics."
Chevalier will replace Maj. Gen. Christopher P. Callahan upon the major general's retirement in January.
"Major General Callahan is a remarkable leader, and his legacy will be remembered for years to come," Chevalier said. "I am truly honored to be selected as the 45th Rhode Island Adjutant General and look forward to serving with and commanding the incredible men and women of the Rhode Island National Guard."
The official transfer of authority will take place at The Veterans Auditorium in Providence on Jan. 31, 2025.
