Charlotte Knights host NYE celebration at Truist Field with increased safety
Dec 31, 2024
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – At least 5,000 people bought tickets to the biggest New Years Eve party in Charlotte. For the first time, Charlotte Knights and Center City Partners hosted CLTNYE inside Truist Field during Light the Knights.
For an admission fee, guests could view the holiday lights and for an additional cost there was ice skating.
On December 31st, 2023 five people were shot by a teen in Romare Bearden park steps away from Truist field.
“I think that oftentimes that gets blown up and when there were thousands of people in the center city last year,” Dan Rajkowski, Chief Operating Officer of the Knights said. “So, we want to take a very positive spin on it, but also be cautious and cognizant of the surroundings around us.”
Officials say there will be public and private security in and outside the stadium. Guests will walk through metal detectors before entering the park which some people say makes them feel safer.
There are signs around the park outlining the rules for the night, which include a curfew for minors without adult supervision. The park will close after the fireworks and anyone who refuses to leave will be considered a trespasser.
Officials say they hope to make CLTNYE at Truist Field a new tradition.
