Autopsy details Robert Brooks' multiple injuries from deadly beating: Court paperwork
Dec 31, 2024
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) - Robert Brooks, the Greece man who died just one day after being beaten as an inmate at Marcy Correctional Facility earlier this month, suffered multiple horrific injuries, according to new court paperwork.
In an Emergency Risk Protection Order filed by New York State Police against correction officer David Kingsley, it's alleged he took part in the physical assault against Brooks, who was left with bruising on the face and extremities as well as a broken nose. The document, referencing the autopsy conducted at the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office, wrote Brooks had suffered "multiple soft tissue hemorrhage of the muscles of the anterior right and left sides of the neck, hemorrhage overlaying of the thyroid cartilage, hemorrhage of the genital area soft tissues, the penis and both testes."
The details of the autopsy were used as supporting evidence in the application due to concern the individual, in this case David Kingsley, may harm himself or another.

The full autopsy report has yet to be released. While Brooks' official cause of death is still being determined, according to the document, the Medical Examiner suggests asphyxia "due to compression of the neck" is the most likely cause of his death "as well as the death being due to the actions of another."
Kingsley is among 12 correction officers suspended without pay. One nurse was also suspended without pay, and one correction officer resigned. The AG investigation continues.
