NYS Parks partaking in 'First Day Hikes'
Dec 31, 2024
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — If you're looking for a fresh start in the new year, maybe start with some fresh air. Officials with New York State Parks encouraged folks Tuesday to participate in a "first day hike."
It's an annual tradition hosted by parks across the state, including right here at home. Letchworth is offering a couple guided events, including a two-mile-long waterfall hike at 10 a.m. The meeting point is the Humphrey Nature Center. That's not all, the Genesee Valley Greenway State Park is hosting nine different events, including an educational walk. Visitors can learn about conservation efforts and share a hot cocoa toast to the new year. Event organizers said every event offers a unique opportunity to start 2025 off right.

"It's just special, you might be starting a new tradition, you might be coming with your family and friends so it's just something very special," said Kelly Adams with NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. "Put your right foot forward for the new year and looking for the new start."
Another fun aspect of these events: Attendees will receive a "first day hike" bandana! You can learn more about events happening here.
