Kansas state offices to close for Day of Mourning, here's when

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is declaring a Day of Mourning to honor former President Jimmy Carter.
Kelly made the announcement on Dec. 31 that she signed an executive order declaring Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025 to be a Day of Mourning for Carter following his death. State of Kansas offices will be closed for this day. A copy of Kelly's order can be found below.
Kelly's order coincides with one declared by President Joe Biden earlier in the month. State of Kansas offices will reopen on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025.

People can also follow along with a flag order Kelly issued on Dec. 30. Flags are to be lowered to half-staff until Jan. 28, 2025 in honor of Carter.
Carter passed away at the age of 100 on Dec. 29. He is recognized as the longest-lived American president and for his other humanitarian and peace work achievements while in office.
