Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much. The Spurs return home tonight for a single game before they go to Denver on January 3 for the first game of a home and home against the Nuggets. Tonight they face the Clippers, who cam back from a 26 point deficit on November 4 to win their first game at their new Los Angeles monument to Steve Ballmer’s ego. Tonight’s game is being held in the much humbler Frost Arena, and the Spurs are coming off a somewhat disappointing 1-3 road trip. If you had told me at the start of the season that the Spurs would play even with playoff teams on the road and have a shot at winning the game with time running out, I would have been ecstatic. But now, about 40% through the season, I’ve seen how good this team can be, and I am impatient for them to take the next step, and turn those close games into victory. There’s a word for this feeling. It’s called greed. I admit it, and I won’t apologize for it. The Spur have a rest advantage over the Clippers tonight who defeated the Pelicans last night 116-113, and they’ve been excellent this season when they’re the more rested team. Kawhi Leonard hasn’t played yet for the Clippers this year, and they’re led by James Harden and Norman Powell. Powell can score quite a bit, and he has range, so he’ll present a challenge for Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs are healthy, and they are looking for a victory after the disappointing last second loss to the Timberwolves. Sidy Cissoko is back with the main team after a few games on assignment with the Austin Spurs, and it would be nice to see him on the court tonight.
