CICERO, Ind. — A Cicero police officer was placed on administrative leave after a crash involving a patrol car. According to a press release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to the 9900 block of East 206th Street during the evening hours of Dec. 25. Upon their arrival at the scene, deputies found a marked Ford Explorer belonging to the Cicero Police Department parked on the side of the roadway. HCSO reported that the vehicle was physically damaged and had its hazard lights on when deputies found it. After their initial investigation, HCSO determined the driver of the vehicle left the scene before deputies arrived. The sheriff's office started a crash investigation immediately after they found the damaged CPD cruiser. Deputies' investigation of the crash is still ongoing. In a statement given to FOX59 and CBS4, the Cicero Police Department indicated it is also conducting its own investigation of the crash. CPD also confirmed that Captain Ed Hodson was placed on administrative leave after the crash. "This matter is currently under investigation," CPD wrote in a statement. "Per policy, Captain Hodson has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is being conducted. The Town will have no further comment until the investigation is concluded." HCSO did not make any arrests during its initial investigation of the crash. However, deputies reported that they have submitted the case to the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office for review. "We have conducted a thorough investigation into the crash and have submitted the case to the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office for their review," a spokesperson for the sheriff's office wrote in a statement. "The decision regarding potential charges and any subsequent actions, including arrests, will be determined by the Prosecutor's Office following their evaluation." FOX59 and CBS4 have reached out to the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office for more information on the case and any arrests or charges that may come from it. As of this article's publication, the prosecutor's office had not provided a comment on the case. This is a developing story. Check back for udpates.
