Widespread rain/snow tapers off by midnight
Dec 31, 2024
After a beautiful sunny Monday, we're wrapping up 2024 with widespread rain/snow. An area of low pressure has set up across the area, bringing the precipitation along with gusty winds.
Look for the widespread rain/snow to taper off by the time we ring in the new year at midnight. With temperatures being above freezing, slick spots are not expected on the roads, but do exercise caution as you're heading out and about for your plans.
Snow, mixed with some rain, tapers off this evening. We're mainly dry by midnight as 2025 begins.
By daybreak on Wednesday (New Year's Day), you can expect overcast skies. Temperatures will be falling down to the freezing mark and we'll continue to see temperatures fall into the daytime hours. By the afternoon, we'll be around the 30 degree mark. Some additional scattered snow showers look to develop, but do not anticipate them to cause any travel impacts. We hope you enjoy the first day of 2025! The only weather concern for the day will be some gusty winds; watch out for gusts up to 35 mph at times.
Our highest temperatures on New Year's Day come early in the morning.A few scattered snow showers redevelop as the day goes on.We're into the upper 20s for most spots by mid-afternoon.Winds will gust up to 35 mph at times during the day.
Temperatures will continue to fall through the remainder of the week; it will be awhile until we get back above freezing. Highs drop from the 30s on Thursday to the 20s on Friday and we'll track a wave of snow showers Thursday night into Friday. Some light snow could accumulate here, so stay tuned for updates.
We stay in the 20s over the weekend and then next closely monitor a weather system Sunday night into Monday. There is the potential for a multi-inch accumulating snowfall here, but confidence remains low on the track of the system. Right now, data is trending the system farther south, but stay tuned for updates, as a shift back north could mean a significant amount of snow. We will keep you up-to-date every day this week with more information.
We stay cold next week, with some slight chances for lake effect snow in the forecast.
