HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WANE) — Officials in Huntington continue to monitor the diesel fuel spill that leaked into Little River last Friday. Preliminary information confirmed the spill originated from the Huntington County Highway Department building (1601 Riverside Drive.) However, the exact source of the spill remains under investigation, as efforts are underway to pinpoint the location of the leak, said a Facebook post. RELATED: Huntington officials continue to monitor oil spill in Little River Emergency response teams including the Huntington City Fire Department and Emergency Management personnel have been working to contain and mitigate the leak. As of Dec. 31, no further spillage has gone into Little River, according to the Huntington County Emergency Management Agency. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) have been on-site to assess potential impacts on nearby waterways, wildlife and soil. No fish have been killed because of the spill, said DNR. The Huntington County Emergency Management Agency urges the public to avoid the area while cleanup and testing continue. They also stated there is no threat to the drinking water, as the city's water does not come from the river.
