WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR)-- House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is celebrating President-elect Donald Trump's endorsement in the speakership race. However, Johnson still has to win over some Republicans if he wants to keep his job. President-elect Trump wants House Speaker Johnson to keep his job in the new Congress writing on Truth Social, "Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement." But not all House Republicans are falling in line. "There are a lot of people who could do the job," Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) said. Rep. Spartz is making a series of demands for the next speaker, including major reforms to government spending. "I have no personal objection to him. I have a problem with us delivering on the issues, and he doesn't have a very good track record," Spartz said. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) agrees with Spartz and wants more from Johnson on how he plans to govern. "There are some issues that I think need to be worked out, specifically dealing with the budget issues," Biggs said. Biggs and Spartz are not ruling out supporting Johnson. Before his endorsement, Trump himself was frustrated with the spending deal Johnson pushed through Congress. It avoided a holiday shutdown but did not raise the debt limit like Trump demanded. "Speaker Johnson is in a tough spot. This is a tough job to have," Rep. Rich McCormick (R-Ga.) said. Still, McCormick says House Republicans should take advantage of this opportune moment. "This is where you have your leverage. This is the one time you have before you elect a speaker to get assurances," McCormick said. Meanwhile, Democrats already re-elected Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) as House minority leader.
