Suspected drunk driver hits patrol car, injures officer in Commerce City

DENVER (KDVR) — A Commerce City police officer was injured after being hit by a suspected drunk driver Tuesday morning.
The Commerce City Police Department posted on X that after midnight the officer was investigating a separate crash on Interstate 270 west of Vasquez Boulevard.
The Colorado Department of Transportation said eastbound I-270 was closed between I-76, I-270, and CO 265/Brighton Boulevard due to the crash.

The department said a suspected drunk driver hit the back of the officer's patrol vehicle. The officer was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be OK.
Commerce City police have not released the status of the suspected drunk driver and did not confirm if the driver was cited and taken into custody. However, the investigation is ongoing.
The Colorado State Patrol is working on the crash as well.
At about 5:20 a.m., CDOT said eastbound I-270 reopened to traffic.
