CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Crews with Charleston’s Fire Station 12, located on Old Towne Road, will be temporarily relocated after the building tested positive for mold.
The Charleston Fire Department was notified on Tuesday that a mold test came back positive. The city’s Facilities and Capital Projects Department is working with the fire department to develop an action plan.
For now, the station will be closed, and the crew is relocating to Station 11 on Savannah Highway.
“During this interruption of service from Station 12, our team will remain in West Ashley and in the same general service area,” said Charleston Fire Chief Dan Curia. “We will continue to maintain fire and medical coverage with a combination of our resources and support through the agreements with our automatic-aide partners.”
A timeline for repairs won’t be known until a plan of action is established.
Charleston Fire reminds the community that Station 12 will not be staffed until the facility is cleaned, and any identified remediation efforts and repairs are implemented.
