Plane bound from Columbus to Boston lands in Pittsburgh after reported lightning strike

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – An American Airlines flight from Columbus to Boston safely landed in Pittsburgh after a possible lightning strike.

According to an American Airlines spokesperson, a flight that departed from John Glenn Columbus International Airport at 6:55 a.m., bound for Boston Logan International Airport, was rerouted to Pittsburgh after reports of a possible lightning strike.
The flight approached the West Virginia border at about 7:15 a.m. The plane, an Embraer ERJ 175 twin-jet, made a 90-degree turn to the north, then began a slow decent while circling twice around the West Virginia and Pennsylvania border, according to Flight Aware. It then headed east towards Pittsburgh International Airport and landed just before 8 a.m.

The AA spokesperson told NBC4 that while an official inspection is still pending, as a precaution the flight crew reported a possible lightning strike shortly after departing Columbus. The plane landed without incident and taxied to the gate. No injuries were reported.
