Arrested man becomes unresponsive while in transport to jail, Wisconsin Department of Justice investigating

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) - Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation say they are actively investigating an incident in which an arrested man became unresponsive Monday night while being taken to jail.
According to a release, officers with the Madison Police Department responded at 8:22 p.m. to reports of a vehicle theft at the Best Western hotel on Annamark Drive.
Police say the suspect tried to flee the scene on foot and they were able to successfully pursue the man and take him into custody.

The man was reportedly injured when taken into custody. Officials say he was evaluated on the scene by EMS and cleared for transport to the Dane County Jail.
Upon arrival at the Dane County Jail, the suspect was said to be unresponsive and was taken to a local hospital where he still remains.
No weapons were fired in this incident and the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave per agency policy.
No other information is available at this time as an investigation into the incident remains ongoing by the DCI.
