MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- In just two weeks, Tennessee state lawmakers will return to the capital for the beginning of the general assembly. As the sessions proceed big decisions could be made regarding your child and their education. This includes calls for a cellphone ban in classrooms across the state. If passed, the legislation would prohibit students from displaying, using, or accessing an electronic device, like a cell phone, during instructional time. Alongside cell phone usage, Governor Bill Lee's push for a statewide expansion of school vouchers is also set to be discussed. State law doesn’t allow school board recall; White says he wants to meet Some lawmakers are also monitoring the Memphis Shelby County School Board's recent effort to remove the district's superintendent. House Education Chairman Mark White says he spoke with Dr. Marie Feagins this week. "So, she's been addressing a lot of these things, and so where I'm sitting right now - and that's why I want to talk to the school board. I stand behind Dr. Feagins because I think she's addressing a lot of the issues that have plagued our school system for a long time," White said. Chairman White made those comments on WREG's newest show, News Channel Three at 3. The general assembly convenes on January 14.
