HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A man and a teenager are dead after a shooting in Hillsborough late Sunday night, police said. According to the Hillsborough Police Department, the victims are a 16-year-old girl from Hillsborough and a 20-year-old man from La Grange in Lenoir County. 16-year-old girl killed in Christmas Eve shooting in North Carolina Family members identified the teenager as Zikera Wardlow, a sophomore at Discover Charter School in Durham. Police identified the male victim as De'Anthony Letrelle Morgan. Police said the victims were found inside a vehicle on Cardinal Drive, near Interstate 85 at about 6:40 a.m. According to police dispatch calls, someone in the area reported hearing gunshots between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Sunday. Photo by Amalia Roy/CBS 17 Quiana Edwards, a cousin of Zikera, said the family last saw her Sunday night. She described Zikera as a respectful teenager who was often seen with a basketball in hand. "She went to Bojangles to get food and ever showed up back at home," Quiana said. "Then we get a call this morning and there are two people dead back there behind a building." Zikera's friend Sophia Hart said, "We really did everything together. We played ball together, she came to my house. My mama took us to the fair. [She] was my best friend since middle school, since I came out here. We grew up together. Always, she protected me through anything." Wardlow attended Cedar Ridge High School and played on the girls' basketball team during her freshman year. The school announced Monday the team will observe a moment of silence in her memory before their game on Friday, Jan. 3. Anyone with information is asked to contact Inv.
