CARRBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — Two people are dead after an earlier Chapel Hill hit-and-run triggered a police chase, ending with a deadly crash in Carrboro, police said. According to the Carrboro Police Department, a caller reported a hit-and-run in Chapel Hill at approximately 4:52 p.m. Chapel Hill police said they found a vehicle that fled the scene of the hit-and-run and tried to stop the car just inside Carrboro's jurisdiction. The driver of the car did not stop and continued to flee, police said. Shortly after fleeing the traffic stop, the vehicle crashed at the corner of Oak and East Popular avenues in Carrboro, killing the two occupants inside, police said. Images from the scene showed a car crashed head-on into a tree just off the street. No other injuries were reported, according to police. The incident is under investigation by the Carrboro Police Department, the Chapel Hill Police Department, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
