Rochester Kwanzaa celebration focuses on 'purpose' during fifth day

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Monday marked the fifth day of Kwanzaa, and local celebrations are still going strong.
The fifth day recognizes what is called "Nia," or "Purpose," one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa. The Rochester Kwanzaa Coalition, holding a week of culture, community and unity, gathered at the Rundel Library in Rochester Monday night.

"The big focus today is being intentional, right. Being intentional about our purpose, as who we are as individuals, who we are as families, as community and as Black and African American People," said Paul Adell Jr., chair of the Rochester Kwanzaa Coalition.
The celebration for day six is scheduled to be held Tuesday at the Avalon Event Space on State Street from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
