MATHEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A man was arrested on Saturday in connection with domestic assault and resisting arrest in Mathews County. According to officials. on Dec. 28, deputies were dispatched to Old Ferry Road for reports of a domestic assault. Deputies arrived to the scene and found two people outside the house. The male subject, later identified as 33-year-old Jonathan K. McDaniel of Gwynn's Island, was seen yelling and going back into the house, while the female subject stayed outside, showing signs of physical injury. After an investigation, it was determined McDaniel was the primary aggressor. Deputies then attempted to place McDaniel into custody, but he resisted arrest, deputies said. Following the brief altercation, deputies were able to subdue McDaniel and take him into custody, despite McDaniel "continued verbal and physical abuse." While at the sheriff's office, McDaniel still refused to cooperate with authorities, leading to both McDaniel and several deputies sustaining injuries. McDaniel was then charged with strangulation or suffocation of another, assault and battery against a family or household member, two counts of assault and battery on law enforcement officers, unlawful use of or injury to telephone and telegraph lines, obstructing justice and injuring property. McDaniel is currently being held in the Middle Peninsula Regional Jail without bond. Continue to check WAVY.com for updates.
