KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Independence police are investigating after a 93-year-old woman was struck and killed near an intersection at Lee's Summit Road and 38th Street on Saturday night. IPD identified the woman as Sophia Machajewski. Investigators say Machajewski lived in the area and are trying to figure out why she was in the roadway. Man’s car window smashed in night filled with vehicle break-ins The crash happened just before 6 p.m. near the intersection of Lee's Summit Road and 38th Street. A driver in a Toyota Avalon headed north on Lee's Summit Road hit Machajewski. That driver wasn't injured and remained at the scene, police say they are cooperating with the investigation.
