RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Through the first 14 minutes of Saturday's game against Florida Gulf Coast, Richmond led by five points after scoring 28 on 9-19 shooting. However, the Spiders missed their next 12 shots, turning their lead into a 15-point deficit. FGCU took control and secured a 75-57 win at the Robins Center. Richmond shot 7-32 (21.9%) from three-point range, their worst performance at home this season. Their overall field goal percentage of 30.2 (16-53) was the lowest in a home game since December 30, 2021, against Saint Joseph's and the seventh-lowest under Coach Mooney’s 20-year tenure. The Spiders closed the gap to 10 points at 60-50 with 8:17 left, sparked by a three-pointer and free throws from Dusan Neskovic. Neskovic led Richmond with 20 points and nine rebounds, just shy of his career high. Jonathan Beagle was the only other Spider in double figures, scoring 14 points on 5-8 shooting and the only player to shoot over 50%. The loss dropped Richmond to 5-8 in non-conference play. The Spiders, defending Atlantic 10 regular-season champions, will begin conference play Tuesday at home against George Washington at 4 PM.
