The Tampa Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting in the Channelside area.According to the Tampa Police Department (TPD), the shooting happened in the 600 block of Channelside Drive on Saturday night, not far from Sparkman Wharf and Amalie Arena. Just before 7:00pm, Tampa Police said there were two reserve officers working the intersection as part of the Lightning game. TPD said they came into contact with a 38-year-old man, and during that interaction, one officer fired their weapon. TPD said the officer who fired their weapon is a 46-year-old woman, and the second officer didn't fire.Tampa Police said theyre currently working to figure out what that interaction was and what led to the weapon being fired. The subject is in the hospital. He is currently alert and conscious," said Brett Owen with the Tampa Police Department. "The officer that fired their weapon has over a decade of law enforcement experience.TPD said three shots were fired, and theres no threat to the community. People who were eating at restaurants nearby told ABC Action News they thought the shots were fireworks. Then I was like, oh my god wait, no this is actually real, so I grabbed her, and we both ran inside, and we hid under the bar," said Katie Bahlinger. It was a surreal experience just because it sounded so much like fireworks, like it was a really stressful like five minutes, but then the manager of the restaurant was like its okay, they said its fine to come out," said Grace Kronsnoble.FDLE is investigating this case, and as the investigation continues, TPD said the officers involved will be placed on administrative duties.
