Dec 28, 2024
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The rest of Saturday looks to be mostly cloudy and mild. Just be sure to bring your boots! As temperatures rise, the snow on the ground is likely to turn into slush. Temperatures will fall into the low 40s for overnight lows, making for a warm night.
8-Day Forecast
On Sunday, rain showers will make their presence felt, primarily in the morning and again by early evening. Whether you're headed to the Bills game or planning to enjoy the final day of the Roc Holiday Village, a rain jacket and sturdy boots will be essential, as slushy and muddy conditions are expected in some areas. Temperatures will again climb into the 50s, which will likely be 20 degrees above average.

Looking ahead to the final stretch of 2024, the weather takes a more dynamic turn. Expect a mix of rain and snow showers, falling temperatures, and the possibility of lake-effect snow. On Monday, a low-pressure system from the west will bring rain, with higher elevations potentially seeing a mix of precipitation or wet snow. By Tuesday, clouds will dominate early in the day, but a second low-pressure system moving in from the Ohio River Valley will usher in rain during the last hours of the year.
New Year’s Day will start with a mix of rain and snow, though the dividing line between the two remains uncertain for now. Generally, higher elevations are more likely to experience wet snow rather than rain.
While some may be enjoying the warmer weather, colder air is knocking on Rochester's door. We will be warm for the rest of the weekend before temperatures start to free fall. As this second system moves on to New England, colder air behind it will flow over the warmer lake waters, creating favorable conditions for lake-effect snow through the latter half of the week. While pinpointing exactly where snow bands will form is tricky this far out, current models suggest Thursday morning may bring noticeable impacts to the Rochester area. By Friday, the snow bands are expected to align more parallel to the lakes before dipping further south next weekend.
