MCINTOSH COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) - On Saturday, Thornell "T.K." King was sworn as McIntosh County's new sheriff, replacing former sheriff Stephen Jessup. King took the oath of office at his home church, Grant Chapel Presbyterian Church. "I've got a big task in front of me, but I'm ready for the challenge,", King said. "You know, being a state trooper for 33 years and then coming in as the sheriff for a department that I know very little about, you know, but I'm still ready for the challenge. I'm excited and I think the people of the county are very excited for me as well." King served in law enforcement for 33 years. During that time, he served as Major and Director of Capitol Police and Post 50. He was also a Georgia State Trooper.   Last year, Governor Kemp recognized King's service stating in part on X, "Maj. King has protected our state and Captial with dignity, and we are thankful for his more than 30 years of service.". FEMA extends assistance deadline
