PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Providence police are investigating after an SUV struck two homes in Providence late Friday night, coming to a stop before hitting a gas line to the building.
According to Anthony Vega, a spokesperson for Mayor Brett Smiley's office, just after 8:30 p.m., police were called to Ledge Street for a report "of a motor vehicle accident involving an occupied building and a possible gas leak from an outside meter."
A 12 News crew on scene said the vehicle hit a small tree, struck one home on the corner of Ledge and Windmill St., then hit another home on Ledge St. Debris was scattered about the length of the block on Ledge St.
One home was evacuated at the time, however the building inspector said the building was structurally intact.
Vega said the driver was transported to the hospital for evaluation, but no injuries were reported.
