Norris wrote that the decision brings about “a moment of reflection and growth,” and elaborates that moving to the bigger space, which was previously a barbecue restaurant, that made her feel torn between having the space to execute creative ideas and the demands of serving a bigger dining room. “In doing so, Petra lost the soul that made it so special; the intimacy, the romance, and the storytelling that defined the old Petra were hard to preserve,” she writes.
The former Petra space was a renovated gas station which Norris told Eater Dallas in a previous interview required a lot of ad hoc kitchen solutions like using coolers in lieu of refrigerators, creating work spaces to execute dinners, an various issues that hit buildings in need of restoration. By contrast, the most recent Petra space came with two smokers and led to the addition of an in-house spirits and wine program rather than a BYOB space. The dining room was also significantly larger, with spaces for private dining, a large bar, a chef’s counter, and regular dining spaces.
Norris went on to hint that Petra will continue, writing, “This isn’t the end — it’s a new beginning. I look forward to moving into a space where I can stay true to my core values as a chef and a team, one where creativity, connection, and soul come first.”
She offered no intel on when or where the next iteration of Petra and the Beast might be. This story will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
