Army vs Louisiana Tech : 2024 Independence Bowl preview
Dec 28, 2024
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Excitement is brewing in Shreveport as Louisiana Tech and Army prepare to face off in the Independence Bowl this Saturday in Independence Stadium.
La Tech's late appointment to the bowl is one of the biggest storylines of this year's bowl game.
The Bulldogs finished their season with a 5-7 overall record, and the seniors accepted that they played their last bit of college football.

However, when Marshall backed out of the Independence Bowl and La Tech was named the new opponent in the bowl game, business was not finished yet for the graduating Bulldogs.
"It's a little bit like one of those Marvel movies," explained La Tech head coach Sonny Cumbie. "When (the movie) ends and you're sitting there watching the credits and everybody knows to wait because it's going to start again. That's kind of what our season has been like."
Coach Cumbie feels that it is special for the team to come back together and play one more football game.
Another interesting thing about this matchup can be seen when you compare the quarterbacks.

Army's Bryson Daily impressed all season with almost 1,000 passing yards and over 1,500 rushing yards. The senior finished 6th in the 2024 Heisman voting and was named AAC Offensive Player of the Year.
"It was an honor to even be mentioned with the great players that were up for the Heisman," expressed Daily. "It's a testament to this team, coaching staff and all the people around me."
On the other side of the ball, La Tech's Evan Bullock is a redshirt freshman who has thrown for almost 2000 yards.
"Throughout the year it was honestly about gaining experience and getting more games under my belt," said Bullock. "As the season went on, I felt like I got more comfortable playing and doing the stuff that the coaches were asking me to do."

There is also a possibility of the La Tech offense looking a little different under the new offensive coordinator Tony Franklin, who recently joined the team on December 12.
"He's been heavily involved with what we're doing on offense," explained Coach Cumbie. "I think from an execution standpoint; our guys have done a really nice job. They've flown around and I think from that standpoint our kids have really responded well."
Army is looking to make history. Their football program has been around since 1890, and no team has ever won 12 games in a season.
"We're playing in the postseason, playing in a great bowl game with the chance to win 12 games," explained Army senior safety Max DiDomenico. "It'd be super special for our senior class, and for our team to give them some momentum going into next year."

"It would be awesome to (win 12 games in a season)," added DiDomenico. "Especially at a program like Army West Point that has been playing for so long. They have had so many great teams, players and coaches. To make history in a program like that is something we are really working towards as a senior class. That's definitely a motivating factor."
The senior army players are excited for their last ride together, but they're also looking forward to what's ahead of them.
"I loved my time at West Point," reflected DiDomenico. "I've met some great people. Some of my best friends are at West Point. I'm looking forward to this game, one last time with the senior class, one last time with everyone on the 2024 team and I'm looking forward to the Army."
The Independence Bowl between La Tech and Army will kick off on Saturday, December 28th, at 8:15 p.m. in Independence Stadium.
