WEBSTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The stakes were high at Allocco Bay Road Grocery Store in Webster as those testing their luck grabbed their tickets ahead of Friday's Mega Millions drawing.
The $1.22 billion estimated jackpot could be the fifth largest in the game's history. Scott Petti, who has been buying lottery tickets for the past 25 years, told News 8 buying a ticket for Friday's drawing was no question.
"When it gets this big, obviously I get a little bit more. I have a budget, but I'm going to go over budget on it, on this one for sure," Petti said.
Petti added watching the jackpot creep higher and higher has been exciting to watch.
"You know the dollar and the dream, right? So, for me, I know I'm not going to win most likely, but the bottom line is, is I get to go home tonight, know that I have a ticket that could possibly win. And you know the wonderful, wonderful things that I would be able to do to help other people, family and friends and, you know, charities, especially with this kind of money, right? I mean, I couldn't spend it all by myself my whole life if I want it. So, so, yeah, I would share it and enjoy watching other people do well with it," Petti said.
Cheyanna, a cashier inside Allocco Bay Road Grocery in Webster is helping to provide that dollar and that dream.
"Mega Millions is actually our biggest seller right now. Well, if actually people are buying it in the $20 tickets more than the lower numbers," Cheyanna said.
She said with that increasing jackpot, customers are going all out.
"Oh, it's like the hottest commodity. You have to have a Mega Millions. The second it reaches over, like a billion, I want to say is when it starts to get really, really hot, and everyone's like, 'All right, anything I got. I got quarters, dimes, nickels.' They need that Mega Millions," Cheyanna said.
Friday's drawing is at 11 p.m. Do you have your ticket? Stop by any store displaying the New York Lottery logo. There is a minimum $2 payment required for a ticket. Good luck!
