TOPEKA (KSNT) - It's been nearly two weeks since Topeka residents noticed trash piling up on their complexes which are owned by Eucalyptus Real Estate. This is a story we've been following since the start, and as of Friday, Dec. 27, the deadline for the owners to clean it up has passed. This comes after the city gave owners 10 days to fix the trash issue, but that time is now up. What happens next is the city will confirm everything is up to code. The city told 27 News it will spend the next two days doing this. If they find that any of the properties are still in violation, the property maintenance unit will take matters into their own hands. The city can apply for an administrative warrant to clean the property. Good Samaritans clean graffiti from Topeka park KSNT 27 News previously spoke with a resident who was frustrated with the inaction from owners. She said she's now in the process of moving out, but stresses the importance of residents speaking up if something is wrong with the property. "When it's an army of people speaking up, it does become a problem," Chelsea Miller, lives in Eucalyptus Real Estate, said. "They do start looking more into it with housing situations. I just want people to know to not let him push you around. Things can be done, if you have concerns, state those concerns. Always document your proof." KSNT 27 News reached out multiple times to Eucalyptus Real Estate today to get answers on where they are in the clean up process as well as how they plan to keep up with trash collection so this doesn't happen again. The company said Waste Management has brought in as many dumpsters as they could, but will need until next week to bring the rest. They also said Waste Management has started earlier than it anticipated to make sure more trash doesn't pile up. For more local news, click here.
