SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The sole elevator in an affordable housing complex for senior citizens, The Woods, is once again a nuisance for some of its residents. The elevator in one of the buildings, which they say is awaiting the final steps of repair before it can be used, has resulted in some people living on the upper floors of the building to spend the holidays alone. "I mean, you're missing the holidays because people can't go see their loved ones during the holidays," said resident Joey Sims. Mary lives on the second floor and uses a walker, and therefore, cannot take the stairs. She said because of that, she had a lonely Christmas. "I stayed home all day by myself," said Mary. "My son and his wife came late in the afternoon, but some of my family was sick." Mary has been keeping track of the times the property managers, part the Indianapolis-based Glick Company, have updated residents on the elevator's status, which has been a fluctuating cycle for the past year. "We got word on Nov. 1 the elevator would be out four to six weeks, and then on the 27th of November, the elevator parts were on the way to the vendor, and on Dec. 16, we were told the elevator has been fixed," said Mary. Residents tell News 3 the elevator is awaiting inspection before it can be used. News 3 has reached out to the Glick Company for comment.
