PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WPRI) — A Connecticut man is facing charges in connection with a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Plainfield early Thursday morning, according to police.
James Wyatt Fitzgerald, 29, has been charged with evading, interfering with police, failure to maintain lane and improper parking.
Investigators believe Fitzgerald was driving down I-395 North around 1:30 a.m. when he crashed into a guardrail in the center median. Fitzgerald got out of and abandoned his crashed car, according to Connecticut State Police.
Police said a short time later, a tractor-trailer overturned after swerving to avoid Fitzgerald's disabled vehicle. The driver, identified by police as a 49-year-old Cranston man, told troopers the vehicle had no lights on and he didn't have enough time to react.

The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries and was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) said the tractor-trailer was carrying approximately 7,000 gallons of liquid nitrogen at the time of the crash.
The overturned tractor-trailer started venting liquid nitrogen as a result of the crash, but the Plainfield Fire Department stressed that the vapor cloud posed no risk to the public.
The DEEP determined the tractor-trailer could not be safely moved without first emptying its contents. Both sides of the highway were closed for hours as the DEEP facilitated a controlled release of the liquid nitrogen.
Troopers eventually found Fitzgerald and issued him a misdemeanor summons, according to police.
