HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Inauguration ceremonies for five Honolulu Council members, one newly-elected and one returning, and Mayor Rick Blangiardi will be held on Thursday, Jan, 2. Get Hawaii's latest morning news delivered to your inbox, sign up for News 2 You Blangiardi will officially begin his second term after taking his oath of office at Honolulu Hale at 9 a.m. with a formal program held at Mission Memorial Auditorium later in the evening. An opening oli and mele by Hālau Hiʻiakaināmakalehua and a traditional Hawaiian blessing by Kahu Kordell Kekoa will kick off festivities. Honolulu mayoral race decided, ʻSo pumpedʻ: Blangiardi Those in attendance will also have the chance to hear a keynote address by Hōkūleʻa Master Navigator Nainoa Thompson and an inaugural address by Mayor Blangiardi. "Serving this city has been the challenge, responsibility and privilege of a lifetime, and we are committed to building on the progress we have made together," said Blangiardi in a news release. Blangiardi's administration plans to double down on efforts to improve quality of life to create more opportunities for all. "I feel our journey is just beginning, and I am excited to work for our city and our great team of dedicated, hardworking public servants to achieve our shared vision," he added. The ceremonial swearing-in for the Honolulu City Council will be held at noon in the Council Chambers at Honolulu Hale. Hawaii Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald will swear in councilmember-elect Scott Nishimoto and returning councilmembers Andria Tupola, Esther Kia‘āina, Radiant Cordero and Augie Tuba.
