Blangiardi, councilmembers to be sworn in during 2025 inauguration

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Inauguration ceremonies for five Honolulu Council members, one newly-elected and one returning, and Mayor Rick Blangiardi will be held on Thursday, Jan, 2.

Blangiardi will officially begin his second term after taking his oath of office at Honolulu Hale at 9 a.m. with a formal program held at Mission Memorial Auditorium later in the evening.
An opening oli and mele by Hālau Hiʻiakaināmakalehua and a traditional Hawaiian blessing by Kahu Kordell Kekoa will kick off festivities.

Those in attendance will also have the chance to hear a keynote address by Hōkūleʻa Master Navigator Nainoa Thompson and an inaugural address by Mayor Blangiardi.
"Serving this city has been the challenge, responsibility and privilege of a lifetime, and we are committed to building on the progress we have made together," said Blangiardi in a news release.
Blangiardi's administration plans to double down on efforts to improve quality of life to create more opportunities for all.
"I feel our journey is just beginning, and I am excited to work for our city and our great team of dedicated, hardworking public servants to achieve our shared vision," he added.
The ceremonial swearing-in for the Honolulu City Council will be held at noon in the Council Chambers at Honolulu Hale.
Hawaii Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald will swear in councilmember-elect Scott Nishimoto and returning councilmembers Andria Tupola, Esther Kia‘āina, Radiant Cordero and Augie Tuba.

Officials said Council Chair Tommy Waters will lead the inauguration and preside over the Council's first official meeting of 2025.
