(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Colorado said its post in Cañon City was broken into and thousands of dollars in damages occurred.
VFW said overnight on Thursday, Dec. 26 into Friday, Dec. 27, VFW Post 4061 located at 215 North Cottonwood Avenue was broken into while the Post was secured and unoccupied. The thieves took over $3,000 in cash and caused $5,000 in damage, primarily by vandalizing entertainment equipment and an ATM inside.

"I don't even know how you could look yourself in the mirror after doing something like this. The VFW post is a sanctuary for our veterans, a place of honor and respect," said Tom Pettis of the Post’s VFW Auxiliary. "Stealing from it not only violates the trust of our community but also disrespects those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. We must stand together to support our veterans and ensure that such actions are not tolerated."
Post 4061 will be closed while repairs are made.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Cañon City law enforcement or the VFW.
