Weather forecast: A surge of weekend warmth

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - Hey, it's mild again! Temperatures found their way back above freezing Friday & should remain above freezing through the night. Shy of a slight chance for a passing light shower, our night is otherwise quiet.
Southerly flow will help temperatures surge toward 50° Saturday with only isolated showers expected. All-in, our Saturday will easily be the better of the two weekend days. Get outside and take advantage of the warmth. We'll still be warm Sunday (even warmer...we're into the 50s), but widespread rain will overspread the region from the south.

That rain will linger into Sunday night before tapering off Monday. From there, the focus centers on New Year's Eve as another wave of low pressure approaches. Models today have trended slightly colder, suggesting a rain/snow mix possible as we ring in the new year. I'm apprehensive on that solution, so we'll monitor trends into the weekend. One thing is for certain, after a very warm 2024 overall, January is set to usher in a much colder and likely more wintry pattern for the area.
