EV charging rates to decrease in Northampton
Dec 27, 2024
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP)-- Electric vehicle (EV) drivers will be paying less to charge their vehicles in Northampton.
Right now EV drivers are paying $1.92 an hour to charge up, but beginning January 1, 2025, that will drop to .32-cents per kilowatt hour. The City of Northampton says that the current price is base on how much they pay to power these stations.
Five facts about electric vehicles in 2024
The change in price and metric is being made possible after negotiating for lower electric supply rates, being reduced by 7-percent. The new rates are expected to lower the cost for almost all EV's, as some of the older models and hybrids tend to charge at a lower speed.
"Yea I mean, I'll say I don't currently have an electric car, but if I can save money and do better by the planet, I'm all for it," said Northampton resident Nolan Cary.
The fees help ensure the City's EV network is self-sustaining while covering electricity costs, repairs and upgrades to the charging stations.
