Northwesterly flow is increasing over New Mexico this afternoon. This flow will bring snow and rain chances to the state. Upwards of 6 inches of snow is possible in the northern mountains tonight though the early morning tomorrow. Due to this anticipated snow, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of the San Juan mountains. 8+ inches are possible above 9000 feet. This advisory will be in effect until 2:00 a.m. Saturday December 28th. Rain will be most prominent in the northeast. Though it is possible for the rain to reach as far south as the metro. The rain will be sprinkles to spotty at best.
A high pressure system is forming off the Baja Peninsula tonight and tomorrow. Ridging associated with the high pressure will be over New Mexico through the weekend. This ridging will cause sinking air over top the state allowing high temperatures to warm up. Temperatures in the 60s are expected in central New Mexico. Temperatures in the 70s are expected in southern New Mexico.
On Monday of next week, a cold front will move through New Mexico. This front will be significantly dropping temperatures across the entire state.
