GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — The man who is accused of killing Greensboro police officer Michael Horan was working for Instacart when the deadly shooting took place.
Instacart confirmed that Tarell Isaac McMillian worked for Instacart at the time of the shooting in a statement.
Officer Michael Horan’s body will be escorted from Raleigh back to Greensboro Friday
It reads:
"We’re heartbroken to learn of the loss of Officer Michael Horan of the Greensboro Police Department. Statement from Instacart
Instacart also confirmed that McMillan is no longer working for the company. Instacart shoppers are independent contractors and not employees.
According to Instacart, the company conducts comprehensive background checks on all of its hires and the company guidelines expressly prohibit the carrying of weapons.
The background check includes a check of the federal registry, sex offender registry, global watchlist, national criminal database, SSN number trace and a search of state and county criminal records.
McMillan has been charged with first-degree murder and a slew of traffic charges after the shooting death of Horan on Monday.
He fled and was taken into custody after a multi-county chase, arrested at the Duplin/Sampson County line, according to highway patrol.
McMillan made his first appearance in court on Thursday virtually with many Greensboro police officers in attendance.
