14 displaced after San Jose fire rips through apartment complex

(KRON) -- San Jose firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire at a Cedarville-Giannotta neighborhood apartment complex early Friday morning, according to the San Jose Fire Department. Over a dozen people have been displaced.
The structure fire was reported at 5:15 a.m. on the 2500 block of Gimelli Way. Responding firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the first floor of the two-story apartment complex, SJFD said. The fire was upgraded to a second alarm at 5:20 a.m. before a third alarm was requested as the blaze continued to spread.

The fire was contained and knocked down at 6:18 a.m., fire officials said.
The fire caused major damage to two apartment units. Two other units sustained moderate fire damage. All four, SJFD said, were deemed uninhabitable. Four additional units suffered smoke and water damage and may also be uninhabitable.
Ten adults and four children have been displaced from the units, officials said.
No injuries were reported by the residents or firefighters.
The fire response is affecting traffic in the area, which is north of Capitol Square Mall, according to fire officials. The public is asked to avoid the area.
