PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WLNE) — A Cranston man was injured while driving a tractor-trailer that overturned on Interstate 395 in Connecticut early Thursday morning. According to a state police report, the man driving the tanker was  identified as Robert Daniels. Daniels told police he swerved to avoid a disabled car that was partially blocking a travel lane. He also said the car didn’t have any lights on. The man in the disabled car was identified as James Fitzgerald of Danielson, who left the scene. Fitzgerald was charged with multiple traffic violations, and was summoned to court for a previous misdemeanor. Plainfield Fire Co. posted photos of the crash, and wrote on Facebook that that the overturned tanker was carrying liquid nitrogen, which is an inert gas that is non-flammable and non-poisonous. At the time the tractor-trailer was flipped over, it was producing a harmless vapor cloud visible to passing motorists. Part of Interstate 395 was closed for a period of time while crews cleaned up the crash. Daniels was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Categories: News
