Dog missing for weeks finds way home just in time for Christmas

KINGSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A dog who survived for two weeks on his own returned to his foster home on Christmas Day, according to Rhode Home Rescue.
Scout, a 1-year-old black lab, slipped out the door on Dec. 11 while a family member was leaving and was hit by a car in front of TLC Coffee Roasters.
The car drove off, while Scout was seen limping off into the woods and was never spotted again.
The rescue said they had "amazing trackers" working the case, with multiple drones being used, flyers being put up and people on the lookout.
"Everyone was doing all they could to help us find this sweet baby but we were scared the worst happened," the rescue wrote on Facebook. "Until today, Christmas Day, he shows up to his fosters’ neighbors house, emaciated and limping, but trying to PLAY!!"
They're calling it a "real-life Christmas Miracle," but while Scout is now safe, he has a long recovery ahead of him.
"Unfortunately due to being hit by the car, then having no medical help for two weeks, Scout will need surgery to have his leg amputated," the rescue wrote.
Scout is now in the care of Mass-RI Veterinary ER where he is getting healthy. Once he is ready will undergo surgery.
Covering his medical bills will be costly for the rescue, so they are collecting donations to help pay for his care.
