San Diego Humane Society officials are asking for the community’s help in adopting 135 guinea pigs after the organization received a mass intake of animals during a law enforcement operation in Ocean Beach earlier this month, officials said. About 50 of the guinea pigs were brought to the organization after its officers rescued them from an RV home on Dec. 18, San Diego Humane Society spokesperson Jordan Frey said. A guinea pig named TP is up for adoption at the San Diego Humane Society, organization officials said Thursday. (The San Diego Humane Society) Frey said the owner was not intentionally breeding the guinea pigs but said the species can multiply quickly when they are not separated by sexes. The animals were put under the organization’s care and joined dozens of other guinea pigs already available for adoption at Humane Society campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside and San Diego. “These small, furry friends are adoptable as singles or in bonded pairs, and have been spayed or neutered to prevent unintentional litters,” Frey said in a news release. “Guinea pigs make incredible companions, and the organization hopes these deserving animals will find their way into warm hearts and homes this holiday season.” A guinea pig named Porko is up for adoption at the San Diego Humane Society, organization officials said Thursday. (The San Diego Humane Society) Walk-in adoptions are open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all four organization campuses. All locations will be closed from 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to Jan 2.
