SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – As we kicked out the fog and low level cloudiness, temperatures warmed in eastern KELOLAND to allow for a slow melt in snow and ice.  With mild air in the forecast this weekend, we'll continue to melt snow and ice off the landscape, but a familiar term may return as we go through January.  Driver flees from scene of fiery crash, police say That term is "Alberta Clipper."  Though we do have a wintry mix in the forecast for early next week, that system is coming in from the west.  The clippers we watch for will come in from the northwest from the providence of Alberta in Canada. We'll start to get back into that pattern as we get into January.  It's close to the same set-up as what we had in December when we had numerous clippers move through KELOLAND. Those types of systems are notorious for a hit of warm air ahead of it followed by light snow, wind and colder air. The hardest part about forecasting these systems is the timing and location, especially in the long range forecast.
