FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) - Police arrested a 36-year-old man with a violent criminal history after he led them on a short, car chase, crashed his car into two other cars, and then took off on foot. At around 8:30 Christmas morning, Fond du Lac police officers said that they got a call that the suspect had allegedly beaten a woman, threatened to kill her, and then stole her handgun. Police said they found his vehicle three hours later on Washington Street near West Scott Street. An officer tried to stop him, but he drove away at a high speed. After a short pursuit, the suspect crashed into two civilian vehicles on the corner of Arndt Street and North Park Avenue. "We hear a great big bang and there's a black car sitting in the middle of the road," said Jim Vanbommel who lives near the crash. "This guy gets out and runs down the road." Three civilians had serious, non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. Police said neither the suspect nor any officers were hurt during the incident. Numerous flights canceled or delayed at Austin Straubel, Appleton International due to heavy fog "Like it really interrupted everything, my daughter is a doctor and she took care of the lady (that got hurt in the crash) right away," said.Vanbommel who said he was in the process of preparing Christmas dinner when the crash happened. "She saw the car smoking and thought that it was going to go on fire." Police said they quickly established a perimeter. Meanwhile, neighbors who spoke with Local 5 News said the man began to run through the neighborhood, cutting through people's backyards. One neighbor who spoke with Local 5 News pointed out some footprints in the snow, saying it's where the suspect had crossed through his backyard. The neighbor said the suspect had tried to get into his house at one point. The neighbor also said he captured the suspect on his security camera sprinting through his front yard, crossing the street and into another neighbor's yard. Police officers said they arrested the suspect in the 200 block of East Follett Street. This is one block away from where the suspect crashed his car. Heavy fog near you? They said the suspect will face multiple criminal charges and was wanted on a warrant for repeated domestic violence offenses and had a felony probation warrant. Neighbors said that they're thankful police were able to arrest the suspect and said this is normally a very quiet neighborhood.
