(KRON) -- The skeletal remains of a human body were recovered near Bodega Bay on Tuesday, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office confirmed to KRON4.
Deputies responded to Bodega Dunes Campground after the U.S. Coast Guard reported a possible dead body at 11:34 a.m. The sheriff’s office located the corpse, which they said had washed up at the beach north of Bodega Bay.
The identity of the body was not immediately known. Due to the condition of the remains, it “will take some time to confirm the identity,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The Sonoma County Fire District and California State Parks assisted in the response.
The discovery of the remains comes less than two months after two boats capsized in Bodega Bay amid turbulent water conditions, resulting in several bodies being recovered and more still missing. Only one survivor, a 13-year-old San Jose boy, was located in the deadly incidents that occurred on Nov. 2 and Nov. 4.
It is unknown if the remains recovered on Tuesday are connected to the November boating tragedies.
In the Nov. 2 incident, a family was fishing for crab among the waters of Bodega Bay when all six on board went into the Pacific as the boat capsized. The 13-year-old survived floating on a cooler and washing ashore the next morning. The body of a 17-year-old boy was recovered shortly after.
On Nov. 12, another body believed to be from the same capsized boat was recovered off the coast of Bodega Head. Three others remain missing.
In the Nov. 4 incident, two people on board a boat in Bodega Bay fatally capsized as dangerous water conditions impacted the coast. One of the deceased victims was recovered. The other remains missing.
