Widespread dense fog developed across most of the Sunflower state Christmas night thanks to an east to southeast surface flow of moist air meeting the relatively cold surface over the area. Visibilities dropped to near zero in a good chunk of the state but should improve this afternoon. Dense fog advisories expired at noon today. The fog will thin in most places this afternoon but skies will remain mostly cloudy. There can be just a bit of rain or drizzle into the afternoon. Temperatures will be held back from warming more than a few degrees this afternoon thanks to the clouds and drizzle. Look for highs in the middle to upper 40s this afternoon. Clouds will persist tonight with fog becoming widespread across the region tonight. A bit of rain or drizzle will accompany some of the fog as well. Temperatures will drop into the 30s to near 40 overnight. Friday will be similar to today with fog in the morning then clouds lingering through the afternoon and high temperatures just a few degrees higher than today. The weekend is looking quite nice. Clouds, some fog and a bit of rain or drizzle will redevelop Friday night and last into Saturday morning then finally some sunshine by the afternoon with much milder temperatures reaching well into the 50s. Sunday should be the pick of the weekend with sunny to partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. A strong cold front is lining up early next week. Once it passes through Monday night into Tuesday, temps will drop below freezing for the overnights with highs near to below average to round out next week. There is limited moisture for a few rain showers Monday night into Tuesday. Some flurries may mix near the Nebraska state line, however, drier air may eat away at this opportunity and leave us with just a quick shot of cloud cover.
