The fire was initially attacked from within the home, but firefighters moved to a defensive position outside when a portion of the roof collapsed and conditions inside grew worse. At around 11:00 a.m., the third alarm was struck, calling for backup from other companies.
The Brookline Fire Department received aid from Boston, Cambridge, and Newton firefighters through station coverage and mutual aid. The fire took over two hours to be fully extinguished.
The five residents of the home were able to evacuate safely and without injury. The Brookline Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the fire, but currently says there is no cause for suspicion.
