Kwanzaa community celebration planned in Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)-- The community is invited to attend a celebration of Kwanzaa in Pittsfield on Saturday night.
The Women of Color Giving Circle and the Rites of Passage and Empowerment Program (R.O.P.E.) is hosting its annual community Kwanzaa Celebration at 6 p.m. Saturday, December 28, at Zion Lutheran Church, 74 First Street in Pittsfield.
Mass Appeal Kwanzaa: A week-long celebration of African-American culture and heritage
Kwanzaa is a non-religious holiday that celebrates African and African American culture with an emphasis on seven principles:
Umoja (Unity)
Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)
Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility)
Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)
Nia (Purpose)
Kuumba (Creativity)
Imani (Faith)
The evening's program will include a youth panel discussion on the topic, “Where do we go from here,” as well as musical, dance and drum performances.
